Who is actually new
Most of the team returns: Tim Snyder as Program Coordinator and Brass Arranger, Lauren Teel on percussion, David Cavazos on battery, Chris McCarthy in his fourth year as Visual Coordinator. The two new hires are Mark Moreno, Visual Designer, previously at Blue Devils and Phantom Regiment on drill, and Justin Shelton, Sound Designer, previously at Cavaliers and Madison Scouts.
Neither new hire sits in the brass chair. Both sit closer to visual and sound design, adjacent to General Effect Music but not squarely inside the caption where the corps' own sheet numbers say the gap was widest. That is either a bet that the GE Music deficit is actually a design and staging problem that visual and sound changes can fix from outside the caption, or it is a gap the corps has decided not to address directly this cycle.

Moreno's drill work at Blue Devils and Phantom Regiment puts him inside two programs with strong recent visual identities; tracking what happened to those corps' visual-adjacent scores after he arrived is the kind of before-and-after read that will not be available until 2027 finals sheets exist, but it is the comparison worth running once they do. Shelton's sound design record at Cavaliers and Madison Scouts gives Troopers a designer with experience inside two very different sonic approaches, which is relevant if the theory is that GE Music underperformance is partly a sound design issue rather than a purely musical one.
The test
If Troopers' GE Music score closes the gap to the rest of the top twelve in 2027 without a brass-chair change, the corps' bet that the caption problem was adjacent rather than direct pays off. If the gap holds, the sheet will have said the issue was closer to the caption than the hires addressed. Either way, 2027's panel comments on General Effect Music are the number to watch first.
